



Meet Mayor Michael O'Connor
Elected Mayor in 2017, Michael was born in Frederick, graduated from Saint John's at Prospect Hall High School (now Saint John's Catholic Prep), in 1984, and Saint Bonaventure University, with a double major in history and mass communication, in 1988.
He served two terms as a member of the Board of Aldermen, elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2013.

Prior to public office, Michael spent nearly 20 years in local media as a reporter, news director, producer, and host/moderator with WJEJ (Hagerstown), WFMD-WFRE, (Frederick), and Comcast/Adelphia/GS Communications Cable Channel 10 (Frederick). 
In 2006, Michael left full-time media to become the business manager at Saint Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Congregation, in Frederick. He also spent nine years as adjunct faculty at Frederick Community College.

In his time as an elected official, Michael has served as a liaison or board member with the Streets and Sanitation Committee, Blight and Vacant Property Task Force, Historic Preservation Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Airport Commission, Community Action Agency, Celebrate Frederick, and Delaplaine Visual Arts and Education Center.

Currently, he represents Frederick on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Municipal League (Frederick County Chapter District Vice President), MML Legislative Committee (past Chair), the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, and the Tourism Council of Frederick County.
​
Michael has been a volunteer with various organizations including Saint Katharine Drexel, the Frederick County Workforce Development Board, Friends of Catholic Education, Saint John's Catholic Prep, Frederick Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, and Aspire Frederick.

Michael resides in NAC 6 with wife, Tammy, and their two dogs (Paris and London). Michael and Tammy are the proud parents of Clare (Gov. Thomas Johnson HS, Cornell University) and Erin (Governor Thomas Johnson HS, University of Pittsburgh).
